Deconstruction of a TV Drama

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMrr8EY4orM
In misfits they use the following techniques:
- Eye Line Match is shown in the beginning of Misfits, this helps the audience recognise the characters in Misfits.
- Shot reverse shot is shown in the beginning scenes of Misifts as the man is talking to the characters, this technique soon changes into an 180 degree rule.
- Slow motion/Time compression was shown in the beginning scenes of Misifits, this is effective because it give the audience time to see what is going on in the scene.
- In Misfits the lighting represents the emotion/motion of the scene as it is very dark/dull/gloomy. It can suggest to the audience that something serious has happened.
- Diagetic and non-Diagetic sounds are played to make it more dramatic and to it fits in with the scenes and scripts making the audience want to watch the tv drama more often.
- The TV drama often uses the 180 degree rule when 2 characters are talking which makes the camera movements very effective as the audience can see over 2 perspectives.
- The social types in Misfits is that they are all convicts that are on community service, this straight away shows the audience that these teenagers are bad therefore they would be doing bad things.
- The group in misfits are not all best of friends but they work together and slowly become friends and help eachother out.

Series

A Series is a longer and more extended format with a multiple group of programmes with the same set of characters which makes it a recognisable format. For example:

Holby City is a British medical drama television series that airs one a week BBC1. Holby City is a spin off from the medical drama Casualty, this therefore shows that Holby City and Casualty are partners in television programmes.
Holby City has a multiple group of programmes with the same st of characters which is a recognisable format, therefore making it a series.

Soap Opera

Soap Opera's have multiple characters who carry a multitude of storylines. they will appear, reappear and disappear at any given time. There is no single storyline that will dominate. For example:

Eastenders is a British Soap Opera on BBC one. The series primarily centres around the residents of Albert Square, a Victorian square of terraced houses, and its neighbouring streets, namely Bridge Street, Turpin Road and George Street, and which encompasses a pub, street market, night club, community centre, cafe and various small businesses, in addition to a park and allotments. Two half-hour episodes per week this excludes Saturday and Sunday.

Eastenders is a entertaining programme becuase it has different characters that have different storylines each time, this would engage the auidence by wanted them to find out the ending of each storyline.
